The following is a concise review of product available to pilots to study and pass their private pilots exam:
I am going to assume that you are looking to get your private pilot license. There are a lot of products out there that claim to help you in this area. In my opinion, this one is the best and I will tell you why I feel that way.
For one thing, in a PC world where so many software manufacturers don’t cater to Mac users, this company does. It may seem like a small issue to you, but to me it’s big. So you don’t have to worry about what computer you use. This will work on any PC or Mac.
The software comes with over 2,000 real exam questions. When I say real, I mean the actual kinds of questions that you are likely to find on your PPL exam, and not just some garbage that somebody threw together. This may be the most important thing of all, and quite honestly, makes this a no brainer on that alone.
The questions cover air law, human performance and limitations, aircraft general, navigation, meteorology and communications.
But here is the best part of this software. I call it shuffle mode. In other words, the questions are given in random fashion so as to avoid learning in what I call parrot mode. This way, you can’t just memorize order. You really have to learn the material. Kudos to these guys for incorporating this function into the software.
Also, the exams are timed, just as they would be in real life. So if you get through the exam in the simulation, you should have no trouble getting through the exam in real life.
And if all that isn’t enough, these folks actually let you test it out BEFORE you buy it. I have yet to find a company that sells exam simulators that allow you to do this. So this is an added plus.
Add to that the fact that it’s all done on your computer, meaning you don’t need a bunch of study materials, papers, books, and so on, it makes this a very compact endeavor.
Now, here is the bad news. Sorry to have to say this. As good as this thing is, it can’t make you study. YOU have to put in the time yourself. If you aren’t prepared to do that, quite honestly, you’ll be wasting your money.
